Battlefield 2042 was shown off by Electronic Arts this week, and it looks pretty insane. Huge multiplayer matches on huge maps in a near-future environment. All of this adds up to a truly next-gen multiplayer shooter experience.

Multiplayer is the operative word, since Battlefield 2042 will not include a single-player campaign. While Battlefield 1 and Battlefield V technically did have single-player campaigns, they were a collection of individual stories that didn’t have a common thread or narrative and often served as a tutorial for the multiplayer in those games.

Multiplayer matches in Battlefield 2042 will support 128 player matches and the game will feature a new competitive mode called Hazard Zone. No details on that mode yet, but more will be shared in the time before release.

EA stated that “Battlefield 2042 marks the return to the iconic all-out warfare of the franchise,” and the players should “prepare for unprecedented scale on vast environments”. The trailer for Battlefield 2042 also featured dynamic environments, including weather that will impact how matches are played. You’ll even get to battle in the midst of a tornado!

Battlefield 2042 will retail at $70 USD for the base version of the game. If you can’t wait to get the game pre-ordered, here is everything we know so far about the Battlefield 2042 pre-order options so far.
